Castle Glen Area Overview

CASTLE GLEN

One of the most popular neighborhoods in Big Bear Lake, Castle Glen combines luxury with an ideal location for full-time residents that comes with an overview of the lake, ski slopes, and even gorgeous mountain views.

The first part of Castle Glen was developed near the end of the year 1998. Before, the area was nicknamed the “Rebel Ridge.” Currently, the subdivision contains homes with the classic Big Bear mountain feel and even newer log homes.

Some of Castle Glen’s homes have views to the northwest of Big Bear Lake of to the north of the Stanfield Marsh Bird Sanctuary. The terrain changes and curves give a bit of an overhead view to all the homes.

  • Curvy roads and curbs
  • Large, modern homes
  • Interesting terrain change and hills providing some views
  • Upscale
  • Underground utilities keep views clear

There are 250 hillside parcels and it is bordered by a designated nature preserve that will stay undeveloped for residents to enjoy the beauty of the mountains. Many of the homes range from 1,8000 sqft and above 4,000. Recently in real estate, a trend that has become huge is an open floor plan to let everyone stay together even from another room. Many homes in Castle Glen can accommodate this by having feature.

Castle Glen Natural Surroundings

The area is a hill and some of the homes overlook the Stanfield Marsh Bird Sanctuary (also known as Baker Pond) that runs along the shoreline to the north. The sanctuary has ducks, coots, and shorebirds, such as the Great Blue Heron, year-round. In the spring and fall, residents can get an awesome view of large groups of white pelicans, Canada geese and other migrating birds that make Big Bear Lake a stopover between their northern nesting areas and the Salton Sea. It is also a great place to see turkey vultures, sometimes in large flocks, as well as bald eagles.

The north side of this hill is forested with Jeffrey pine and juniper trees and has been set aside as bald eagle protected habitat. It is a good place to view the wildlife that crosses through or passes over on its way to the conservation area on the south shore of Baker Pond.
