Boulder Bay

Boulder Bay is a stunning neighborhood in Big Bear Lake, California. Named for the picturesque boulder filled bay, this area is one of the most photographed areas in the valley just because of its unique topography and breathtaking imagery.

Part of the Big Bear Lake west region, it is located on the west end of the valley near the Big Bear dam which makes for faster, easier navigation on trips up and down the hill. Most properties are on steep terrain with amazing lake views and so curvy, treed roads dominant most neighborhoods.

Although there are some lots that sit on more level terrain, many of the houses are built right into the hillside or among the boulders. It is here where a majority of quaint, exclusive lakefront cabins for sale can be found here amidst some of the more elaborate custom estates and lakefront properties.

The Boulder Bay business center provides local property owners with a market, restaurant and other convenient shops. There are private docks and lakefront access for home owners but also many different public access areas. The newest addition to the area is a boulder enhanced public park for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.

Nestled between the lake and the San Bernardino National Forest, this area not only home to Boulder Bay but also to the privately held and historic Garstin Island (known locally as China Island), Papoose Bay, Inspiration Point, Metcalf Bay, and the Boulder Bay Marina. The Castle Rock trail, one of Big Bear Lake’s most popular hiking trails can be found here as well.

If you like snow, this neighborhood gets some of the most snow each winter. Since it sits on the south side of the shore it tends to accumulate since it remains shaded. Because it doesn’t melt as fast, the snow also stays on the ground longer than anywhere else in the valley. This means that during the winter it can get icy at times and so snow removal services and advanced planning are a recommended practice.

It is just a short amble to the forest or lake from most locations in Boulder Bay and if you want to be surrounded by forest trees and close to the lake–Boulder Bay real estate might just be the perfect choice.
